James, I'm thrilled to hear that there's a new Shins album on the horizon! But I also want to say, and I'm sure a lot of other fans are with me on this: I'd rather you take the extra time to make music you love than push an album out on an arbitrary schedule. I think every Shins album has been better than the last (although I think Port of Morrow and Heartworms are tied in my heart), so I can't wait to hear the new one! <3
Into the Blue was such a treat, the depth to the samples and textures on each song was such a huge step up. Invisible Exit is one of your finest. I can’t wait for any new Shins material, it always comes at the perfect time in life when we need it the most ❤️
Thanks for the update! I think more or less a lot of us are on this journey of life with you and can relate to life getting in the way of life. I often say the same phrase "things will slow down after next week." I feel like Gatsby standing on the edge of the dock reaching out towards the green light. The green light being this idea that next week I'll have more time to work on that project or make time for friends.
Its like John Lennon sang, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." (Beautiful Boy (girl?) would be a great cover btw).
Having said that, I am very happy with the family I have and my twin boy and girl.
Im 35 years old now, and still remember the magical time in my early high school experience where I discovered your music. I can patiently wait longer for more.
Great things take time! Waiting a little longer for an album means more thoughtful and less forced creativity and a polished sound. A rushed release can miss those magic moments that make music truly special. Take your time James - we have an amazing back catalogue to listen to while we patiently wait! You do you man!
Beileive it or not I just discovered you this past year. Been going back through your catalogue and I love your style! I'll be happy to hear the new album when it's done. I'll have to check out the other band.
Songs are hard to fathom for me too. They happen when they’re ready. Sometimes I journal or lyric write hoping that that will help down the line, but really for me it’s always a surprise, trying to put down something that’s just coming out.

I’ve had “Love On The Run” on repeat for the last couple of weeks! It’s like time traveling to the 70’s, my happy place!
